LAHAD DATU, 31 August 2014

As the sun rose in the country’s eastern most region, 2,000 staff of Pontian United Plantations (PUP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGV), marched in celebration of the 57th Merdeka Day.

It has been a tradition for PUP employees since 2003 to mark the Merdeka Day by marching in solidarity through the misty morning from as early as 7am.

The annual event, PUP National Day, was officiated by FGV Group President and Chief Executive Officer Mohd. Emir Mavani Abdullah.

Mohd Emir said the celebration has brought the employees and management together as a multi-skilled workforce in the Group, and more importantly as Malaysians.

If we aspire to move forward we should not be shackled by complacency, egoistic, and cowardice. These are the traits and attitudes that will hinder us from working as a team and achieve our target to become one of the top 10 agribusiness companies in the world.

The celebration progresses throughout the day with the Merdeka March competition followed by Sabah cultural show and contemporary dance performance by employees and their family members.

PUP, acquired in Sept 2013, has 11 estates here in Kinabatangan and Lahad Datu districts, with the potential of contributing RM100 million to FGV’s revenue this financial year 2014.
