MSM Malaysia Holdings Berhad produces, markets and sells refined sugar products under its flagship brand, Gula Prai.

Our Sugar Sector operates mainly through our 51% owned subsidiary, MSM Malaysia Holdings Berhad (MSM). MSM is Malaysia’s leading refined sugar producer and one of the largest standalone sugar refiners in Asia in terms of capacity.

MSM is involved in producing, marketing and selling refined sugar products under the flagship brand, Gula Prai. The company conducts its business principally through two operating subsidiaries, MSM Prai Berhad, and MSM Sugar Refinery (Johor) Sdn. Bhd., producing a variety of sugar products ranging from refined sugar of various grain sizes, brown sugar, liquid sugar, premix to molasses, catering to a wide range of consumers’ needs and demands. In addition to premium sugar, MSM also produces sugar sucralose and stevia mix to provide balance lifestyle for our consumers. Besides that, MSM also operates a logistics company – MSM Logistics Sdn. Bhd.

At present, MSM’s annual production capacity reaches 2.05 million metric tonnes of refined sugar for the domestic and export markets. In 2022, MSM produced more than 947,000 tonnes of sugar, of which about 230,903 tonnes are catered for the export market.

Incorporated on 10 March 2011, MSM was listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia and has a market capitalization of RM 580 million as of 30 December 2022.

Refineries

MSM Prai Berhad - Prai, Penang

MSM Prai Berhad operates the Prai sugar refinery in Penang. Located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, the facility is the country’s largest sugar refinery with an annual production capacity of 1.05 million tonnes of refined sugar, accounting for up to 51% of MSM’s total production capacity.

MSM Sugar Refinery (Johor) Sdn Bhd - Tanjung Langsat, Pasir Gudang, Johor

MSM Johor fully commissioned in November 2018, provide an avenue for MSM Group to support domestic demand and further ramp up its export sales at a competitive pricing as it is strategically located at Tanjung Langsat Port, Pasir Gudang, Johor and is anticipated to reduce cost across the value chain following the strategic port facilities which contribute towards cost-efficiency as well as reducing manpower intensive through the usage of state-of-art machines with better technology and fully automated.

Aside from household consumers, MSM sells to a wide range of customers in Malaysia and in other countries directly and indirectly through traders, wholesalers and distributors. Its customers include major companies in the beverage and confectionery industries, hotels, restaurants, food outlets, modern-trade chain and various sizes of supermarket nationwide.
