KUALA LUMPUR, 30 March 2017

Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGV), the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) and The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today, kick-starting a cooperation to better promote respect and compliance for human rights in business operations and to intensify collaboration in related areas in support of human rights.

The MoU also serves to provide a framework for the realisation of human rights principles consistent with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP).

The two year collaboration offers mutual assistance and commits the parties to share knowledge and expertise relating to business and human rights in Malaysia, as well as to implement several initiatives including establishing a plan of action to ensure compliance and respect of human rights principles, to conduct stakeholders consultations and to implement capacity building programmes.

In addition, SUHAKAM will also conduct on-site visits and monitor activities to ensure adherence and compliance of human rights standards.

The MoU was signed on behalf of SUHAKAM by its Chairman, Tan Sri Razali Ismail, on behalf of FELDA by its Director-General, Datuk Hanapi Suhada and on behalf of FGV by its Group President Dato’ Zakaria Arshad.

Also present were FELDA Chairman YB Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad and FGV Chairman YB Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.
