FGV Launch Young Entrepreneurs Programme

To Produce More Entrepreneurs among FELDA Younger Generation

FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV) plans to produce more young entrepreneurs who will be involved in the palm oil industry through the Young Entrepreneurs Programme for individuals who do not have the opportunity to further their studies.

FGV Chairman, Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid said, each year FGV Group has issued numerous contracts worth millions of ringgit to vendors and many of them have become successful.

However, the younger generation from Felda communities, particularly settler’s children who can benefit from these contracts, are very few and most of them choose to migrate to the cities to look for jobs.

From my observation, the trend is that the younger generation are avoiding the palm plantation industry, assuming employment opportunities in this area does not give a bright future

“From my observation, the trend is that the younger generation are avoiding the palm plantation industry, assuming employment opportunities in this area does not give a bright future.

“In order to dispel this notion, FGV is introducing the Young Entrepreneurs Programme to give opportunities for FELDA’s new generation to improve their socio-economy and at the same time, erode the negative perception of careers in the plantation industry, “he said.

The programme is open to all citizens aged 20 to 30 years and priority is given to new generation of settlers, children of FGV staff and FELDA staff living in the FELDA area.

FGV will select 40 participants for the first batch of this programme and will undertake all training and equipment cost.

Through this Young Entrepreneurs Programme, participants will be trained on the basics of business management and on-the-field sustainable plantation management to ensure that each participant will be able to manage their own business.

Successful participants in the Young Entrepreneurs Programme will be given contracts and appointed as FGV vendors. At the same time, they can also further expand their business by obtaining contracts from other parties.

Azhar said this programme will be implemented continuously with the ultimate goal of producing more young entrepreneurs who are competitive and able to support the development of the country’s oil palm plantation industry.

I envision by producing more skilled young entrepreneurs, the plantation industry can reduce dependency on foreign workers currently estimated at about 30,000 people. This endeavour will also help shape a sustainable industrial ecosystem in the long run

FGV Lancar Program Usahawan Muda
